Back at work after the break? Try these tips to get the cogs going again

Ease yourself into it, will ya?

It can be difficult starting back at work for the year after having such a wonderful, sunny holiday break. In all fairness, the inspiration for this blog is taken from thinking exactly that. Right now it's a beautiful summers day and I'm tap tap tapping away at the keyboard...But honestly, it's not all doom and gloom. Getting back into the swing of things for the work year can be pretty simple, so try these tips to start the cogs turning again:

Take the time to smell the roses

  • Plan your workload when you get in in the morning. Think about what you'll do that day. Write a list.
  • Make sure that list has a few things to look forward to. Perhaps you start touching base with all your favourite colleagues and clients, take a walk in the sunshine at lunchtime and then again mid-afternoon when you really start to struggle.

Start planning what you want to achieve

  • You've heard of the 30, 60 and 90 day plans, why not do them for what you want to achieve at the start of 2016? Great idea to get some focus, and taking the time to plan is always a winner!
  • At the end of the 30 days, revisit your plan. See what you achieved, and review the next one.

Show gratitude

I recently read this article about how showing gratitude is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Take a few minutes to read it, and think how you can pay it forward in 2016.
