So, what is GovHack exactly?

GovHack is a weekend Hackathon where participants use government open data to produce something useful. It could be an app which guides you through the homeownership process, or perhaps a visualisation of poverty levels in New Zealand.

The idea was started in Australia a few years back and this year we’re getting into the ANZAC spirit and hacking over the same weekend, 3 – 5 July.

In NZ there are a few different towns and cities participating: Auckland, Whangarei, Dunedin, Gisborne and us here in Wellington.

We’re really looking forward to GovHack

We’re also really pleased to be involved in such an awesome, slick event with TIGERS.

See you all there!

How OptimalPeople is helping

Along with our sister company OptimalBI, we are helping the Wellington event be slick. What does that mean, you ask?

  • We’re helping collect data
  • We’re helping market and promote the event
  • We’re coordinating the catering
  • We’re sorting the run sheet
  • We’re part of team logistics
  • We’ve found the entertainment

Of course, we’re not the only ones helping out. GovHack is a free event put together by volunteers, it’s fully reliant on generous sponsorship. Big shout out to the sponsors is here – if you feel like helping us out, please get in touch!
